PRETERIM

Project purpose is to show the use of InfraRed (IR) thermography as a diagnostics tool in a Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) approach. This technique has been applied for diagnosing the “health” of melting furnaces refractory in an aluminium foundry. The temperature measured on the external surface, which depends on the thickness of the refractory, is used to evaluate the necessity of a preventive intervention. Also the economical impact of this predictive approach has been evaluated in order to demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness in using IR Thermography. Finally, applications of IR has been discovered not only in the furnaces, but also in electrical equipment.

Project in collaboration with Brembo.
